The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is a nationally recognised introductory teaching qualification, previously known as the PTLLS. It is designed for anyone who wants to teach or train in the further education and skills sector, whether you are completely new to teaching or already delivering training and want to gain formal recognition.
This short qualification introduces you to the fundamental principles of teaching and learning. You will learn how to plan and deliver engaging sessions, assess learner progress, and understand the roles and responsibilities of a teacher in the sector. It is the ideal starting point before progressing to the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

This is an introductory qualification assessed through written assignments and a microteach session (a short observed teaching session, typically 15 minutes). To achieve the Level 3 Award, you will complete 12 credits across units covering teaching roles and responsibilities, planning for learning, and delivering and assessing learning.
No previous teaching experience is required, and you do not need a teaching placement to complete this qualification.
