Build Your Mentoring Skills

The NCFE Level 2 Award in Mentoring is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone who mentors or wants to mentor others within their organisation or community. It introduces the principles and practice of mentoring, covering how to build effective mentoring relationships, support mentees in setting and achieving goals, and reflect on your own mentoring practice.

Whether you are taking on a formal mentoring role for the first time, supporting a colleague through a transition, or volunteering as a mentor in your community, this qualification will give you the knowledge and confidence to make a real difference.

What You'll Learn

This qualification develops practical mentoring skills, including:

Core Skills:

Understanding the role and responsibilities of a mentor
Building effective and supportive mentoring relationships
Helping mentees to set goals and develop action plans
Using active listening, questioning, and feedback techniques
Understanding boundaries and ethical considerations in mentoring
Reflecting on your own mentoring practice and identifying areas for development

Course Content and Structure

This qualification is assessed through a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your understanding and practice of mentoring. To achieve the Level 2 Award, you will complete the required credits across units covering mentoring principles and practice.

You will need access to a mentoring opportunity (formal or informal) to generate the evidence required.

How You’ll Be Assessed

You’ll build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your competence. This evidence will be assessed by a fully qualified and occupationally competent coach or assessor through:

Virtual or one-to-one coaching sessions
Flexible delivery tailored to your needs and work schedule
Regular feedback and guidance to support your progress

Your portfolio will be internally quality assured and externally certified by NCFE.
